Kevin had been out to cut back the grass in the two meadows adjacent to Cardiff High school, and 20 volunteers of all ages turned up for work on Saturday.
This removal of the cuttings means that the nutrient level is maintained at a lower level - more suitable for the growth of the wild flowers needed to provide the biodiversity in the area.
We also made a start on clearing some of the overgrowth around the edges of the meadows and hope to continue with this task later on this year. The trees (planted by pupils of the school) are doing well and the rowan berries, apples etc are being produced in significant numbers. However, the plant growth such as brambles around these trees needs to be controlled so that they continue to flourish.
