CRIPES (Cardiff Research Into Parasites in EcologicalSystems) is a research group at Cardiff University. The BARC (Bag And Remove Cymru) project was set up in 2012 by Prof Jo Cable after she noticed the amount of dog fouling whilst walking her dog locally.A group of students has been collecting soil samples from around the UK with the aim of determining the distribution of cat and dog parasites within the UK. By establishing relevant data, BARC can raise public awareness of these parasites and the detrimental effects that they have on pet health, wildlife and human health. Toxocaracanis (a nematode roundworm) has already been detected in significant number of samples collected in the Nant Fawr area. Want to know more?
