Nant Fawr stream species (2017)


1.     Fish – bullheads, stone loach, brown trout
2.     Annelida - leeches include Erpobdella octoculata, Glossiphonia complanata and the fish leech Piscicola geometra.
3.     Mollusca include Radix peregra and Lymnea (non-native NZ mudsnail Potamopyrgus antipodarum is abundant)
4.     Insecta larvae –
·       Stoneflies,
·       Mayflies (include Ephemera danicam in low numbers, two species of Heptageniidae  in reasonable numbers, Baetis spp (rhodani?) in reasonable numbers.),
·       Caddisflies (include Agapetus, Glossosoma, Rhyacophila dorsalis,  Hydropsyche siltalai, H. pellucidula, Silo pallipes, Sericostoma personatum and at least one large Limnephilidae (Halesus sp?)
5.     Crustacea - Gammarus pulex are reasonably abundant

6.     Platyhelminthes – Planaria (various)

Passage Migrants (Spring and Autumn)
Common sandpiper, swallow, house martin, sand martin, swift, and wheatear;

Rarer species - green sandpiper, redshank, greenshank, common tern, arctic tern, black tern &  sedge warbler. Also spotted recently, egret and kingfisher.
