Workday, February 22nd 2015

Our luck with the weather had been too good to last - it rained! However, our tough volunteers were undeterred and 21 adults plus 3 children turned out to brave the elements. We split up into 4 groups to face a variety of tasks.
Group 1 took the wheel barrows and wood chip to continue the maintenance of the back paths through Rhydypenau Woods.
Group 2 cut down willow branches to cut into stakes to continue to establish the framework of the hedge next to the old reservoir car park. They were then able to start weaving in the branches to framework.

Group 3 removed the remainder of the posts from the corral that had been dismantled on the last workday.
Group 4 continued to remove the undergrowth in the area adjacent to the old corral area; this will give the wild flowers a chance to become established this Spring.
A word also about the team that has been working during the weeks on the new kissing gate.
A group of volunteers have improved access at the top end of the Nant Fawr, where the public footpath continues up to Lisvane.
The kissing gate and fence (made from the wood reclaimed from the corral) have been erected on the near side of the river and the path cleared on the far side. This will benefit both disabled and older members of the public - well done boys (i.e. Ivor, Stephen, Derek, Paul and Kevin)!
