The following has been sent on our behalf:
The Friends of Nant Fawr have
been in existence for more than twenty years.
During that time the Friends have
provided many thousands of hours volunteering in the Nant Fawr area and have raised
large amounts of grants to maintain and develop the woodlands and meadows. This would not have been possible without the assistance
and expertise of Cardiff County Council Park Rangers Service.
We are therefore very concerned
that Cardiff Council Council are proposing major cuts to the Park Ranger
Service in 2015 and following years. The Friends of Nant Fawr are only one of 29
Friends groups throughout the city working to maintain and protect the green
spaces that so many value as being an important part of living within the capital
city of Wales.
The Council are promoting the
increased use of volunteers in the services that they are reducing. The Park
Rangers Service has been ahead of other parts of the Council with the use of substantial volunteering
resources using the Park Rangers expertise, supervision and management.
However, it is the fear of the
Friends Forum that volunteering may even reduce if these proposals are
implemented, which would have an immediate impact on the city’s green spaces.
If you value the green spaces within the city please contact your local representative to make them aware of
your concerns.
