This effort was prompted by the decision to participate in the UK Plantlife survey and then furthered by the chance to contribute to SEWBReC (SE Wales Biodiversity Records Centre).
We started with a 1km walk (covered by three different work groups) to list all species that occurred within 2m on one side of the path. We then studied a 5m x 5m square plot in each of three separate habitats.
Area 1
This plot was in the wet woodlands alongside Cliff's Path. This group was led by Isabel Good and Steve Howe.
Area 2
This area was in Top Meadow - it was one of the driest we could find! Jane Williams led this group.
The third area was at the bottom of Blackoak Meadow, bordering on to Boggy Meadow - as the name implies, one of the wettest areas. Peter Randerson led this group of volunteers (all of whom had sturdy footwear!)
Support Team
As usual, Ivor, Mary (and Derek) turned out to support our efforts. Also, thanks to Tom for his photographic contribution and to Conor and Sam (who, even during the World Cup, earn yet more hours for their DofE!)
More photos and provisional results can be seen on the page about our Flora survey.
