On 4th
Oct, Nant Fawr was visited by 50 undergraduate Biosciences students
from Cardiff University. They spent the morning in the meadows
and woodland, learning about the history and management of the local
area. Kevin Date gave inspirational talks about the past, present and
future of rural and urban ecosystems in the UK. We are incredibly lucky
in Cardiff to have such great access to a range
of green spaces whether that be carefully managed roadside curbs or the
many Arboretums, but in order to maintain wildlife we need connectively
between all the different habitat types, and of course that needs a lot
of work. Hopefully, this visit helped demonstrated
the value of “Conservation on Your Doorstep”.
The
group were accompanied by post-graduate students Nia Thomas and Kath
Whitley, Dr Rhys Jones (yes, you might have seen him on TV:
http://www.welshstars.co.uk/dr-rhys-jones) and our own Nant Fawr Committee member Professor Jo Cable (http://www.cardiff.ac.uk/people/view/81131-cable-joanne).
