Llanishen High school plant their orchard - January 27th 2016

KWT awarded a grant to Llanishen High school to develop an orchard and the money was spent on trees, tools and seeds. Ian Sturrock and Sons had sent rare old fruit trees from Bangor as we set about our Conservation/ Pollinator project: apple (Pig Aderyn, Morgan Sweet, Bardsey Island, and Afal Nant Gwrtheryn, Croen Mochyn, Machen and Trwyn Mochyn),  and  pear trees (Penrhyn Castle and Brenhines yr Wyddfa)  - see his Website for more details about their history.
The weather was kind - it stopped raining half an hour before planting commenced!
Kevin (our Ranger) demonstrated what needed to be done and they were off! The soil was muddy but we were committed and set about our task.

We also sowed yellow rattle seed to try to control the grass between the trees so that mowing will be easier.
Once again, it was a pleasure to work with the enthusiastic Ecogroup and their teachers.
