IF YOU GO DOWN TO THE WOODS TODAY….
You will see some new posts which have been set up for two trails in the Nant Fawr Woodlands.
The work was done during January and February workdays led by our Park Ranger, Kevin Date.
Firstly, an Orienteering Course has been developed in Woods Covert by Cardiff High School.

The posts and signs were made by the pupils and they were set in place by the school eco-group with help from some members of the Friends of Nant Fawr. The Course will be used by pupils in their physical education lessons.
The second trail was also set up during the regular workdays in the New Year in Rhydypenau Park and Rhydypenau Woods. This is a wildlife Explorer Trail for younger children and the twelve posts reflect wildlife which can be seen or heard in the area.

Other work which has been going on recently in the workdays relates to improving the paths through the woods with alder matting and bark. This work has been particularly important after the poor weather in recent months.
Paths were cut back, invasive plants such as laurel have been removed and used to create "habitat piles"
The numbers of participants on workdays has increased in recent months and we are grateful for all newcomers.
