Duke of Edinburgh Award and Welsh Baccalaureate

How do I volunteer with Nant Fawr Woodlands

16-18 year olds

  • 16-18 year olds may volunteer unaccompanied once they have completed a Cardiff Council Volunteer Registration Form, which has been countersigned by their parent/guardian.
  • The form should be brought to their first Sunday Work Day and given to Kevin Date, our Cardiff Ranger, who is responsible for supervising registered volunteers.
14-16 year olds
  • Pupils under 16 years of age are able to volunteer if accompanied by a parent/guardian at all times.

How often am I able to volunteer with Nant Fawr?
The Nant Fawr Community Woodlands’ volunteers meet and work with a Cardiff Council Park Department Ranger for 2 hours on the third Sunday of every month.

  • The Nant Fawr Family Fun Day held on a Sunday in July provides a further one off volunteering opportunity of up to 3 hours.

Pupils requiring a weekly volunteering commitment may also volunteer with our partner groups - Friends of Roath Park and/or Friends of Heath Park in order to meet the time commitments of their course.

Duke of Edinburgh Bronze and Silver Awards

Bronze - Pupils usually undertake weekly volunteering for either 3 months or 6 months (depending on the time they choose to commit across the Volunteer, Skills and Physical Sections of their Award).

Silver - Pupils usually undertake weekly volunteering for 6 months.

Gold - There is insufficient opportunity to complete the hours for this award unless pupils also volunteer regularly with partner groups to meet Gold Award requirements.

Welsh Baccalaureate KS4 - Community Challenge
  • Pupils are involved individually or as groups in ‘neighbourhood enhancement’ for up to 10 hours maximum depending on how they structure their challenge.
